What were the Turks like from the very beginning before they spread from Siberia to Central Asia and then to Iran, Byzantium and the Caucasus in the Middle Ages?
The answer to this question is provided by one of the Turkic peoples - the Yakuts, who have best preserved genetics of the first, original Turks. These people have their own federal state in the Russian Federation - the Republic of Sakha or Yakutia.
These are the results of their autosomal genetic study (whole genome study) - they are 97.5% true Mongoloids:

The following frequencies were complied using the data from the Dodecad Project's K=12b admixtures. The 'Total European' column represents North_European (Mesolithic Central and North European) + Atlantic_Med (Mesolithic South European and Neolithic European). The 'Total Middle Eastern' adds the frequencies of Caucasian (Caucasus and Anatolia), Gedrosian (Iranian Plateau) and Southwest Asian (Arabian peninsula). European and Middle Eastern ancestry together make up the 'Total West Eurasian' admixture. The purpose of this table is to easily find out what percentage of European, Middle Eastern or West Eurasian ancestry is found in various populations around Eurasia and Africa.
